What we do

Masterskaya — is a workshop for creative kids and adults

Our mission

Masterskaya is a place for kids to learn to set goals and achieve them.

A pocket-sized flashlight, a clay mug, a musical track, or a motorized race car: Kids can create anything they want, overcoming real-world problems, learning to collaborate, making mistakes, and finding the right solution, just like in real life in any profession or hobby.

Every kid experiences independently choosing their own goals and achieving that goals in a group of like-minded peers. This is themost important principle for any individual: to be able to make their dreams a reality.

A new approach

Masterskaya isn’t so much a school and resembles more how adults collaborate together. It’s a place where everybody understands their strengths and weaknesses, where they are able to discover their potential talents, and where they interact with their peers regardless of age and status.

There aren’t any teachers or students. Everybody here is aMaster, just at different things. Everybody learns from each other.

There isn’t a strict schedule. We’re open from 4pm-7pm, Tuesday through Saturday. You come at your convenience.

There aren’t any classes, instead, there are three main stations where you can spend your time: Wood workshop, the clay room, and handicrafts.

Balance of interests

We didn’t arbitrarily choose these three stations. Each station offers a unique set of skills, so no matter what mood the Master comes in, there is no chance for them to get bored.

Interdisciplinary projects

Projects aren’t confined to one station. Imagine: making a frame of a model house at the Wood and electrical workshop, knitting a rug and sowing curtains in handicrafts, and making small clay tenants and dishes in the clay room.

Themes of the week

Tuesday through Saturday, each station has its own theme of the week. Here are few examples: in the clay class we sculpt cactus pots, at the wood and electrical workshop we make propeller mechanisms, and at the handicrafts station we work on wool collages. You can check out all the stations and stay wherever you’d like.

The schedule is updated on Mondays. And yes, you’re always welcome to work on your own projects, the themes of the week are optional.

Wood workshop

Process
Here, masters of all ages make projects from simple materials and basic electronics. They gain crucial experience in building complex systems from simple elements. You can saw, drill, solder, screw, and glue 🗜

Materials and instruments
We have wood, plastic and cardboard in all sizes and colors. Saws, hammers, screwdrivers, drills, pliers. We have batteries, wires, LEDs, switches, soldering irons, glue, screws, nuts and bolts;🔩

Examples: a pocket light, a lighted cabinet, a model car, a foosball table, a dollhouse.

Handicrafts

Process
Creative work with textiles is the idea behind the station. Here you can do any project related to sewing, knitting, embroidery, weaving and felting. We have safe tools, and beginner templates with clear algorithm;✂️

Materials
We love natural colors and fabrics, we use wool, cotton, felt, wooden beads and weaving circles, buttons, and much more.

Examples: Embroidery on a T-shirt, a set of clothes for a doll, a knitted keychain for a backpack, or a character from your favorite game through the felting.

The clay room

Process
Molding gives you a sense of volume, weight, and proportions. It teaches you to think and create in three dimensions. When working with clay, you can always change and refine something. And when there's no fear of messing something up, there's no tension. We make everything - from simple geometric shapes to items for real life, including real dishes. We mold animal and human figures, practicing model human characteristics. We paint, glaze and prepare for firing.🗿

Materials
We use high-quality clay, handy tools, and professional glaze. We fire the clay in a special kiln 🔥

Examples: a coffee cup, a flower pot, a whistle, a bell.

Musical station

Process
Synchronizing individuals, a sense of rhythm, teamwork-it's essential in any activity, but only in music is it seen and heard most vividly. In general, music is one of the best ways for a sensory understanding of life. Someone who has learned how to make a sound out of an instrument and gets discouraged needs to take it to the next level and start playing music with other musicians 🎸

Instruments
We've got guitars, keys, drums and lots more. Rock and roll is alive! 🤘

Examples: your own track on Spotify, a live performance, a clip on YouTube.

Autonomous Collider Station

Process
Here the masters decide what to do - play a board game, discuss a new project, draw or just talk about life. The clash of ideas gives birth to new ideas 💡

Equipment
Large table under a lampshade, different sizes of paper, pencils and paints for drawing, board games and puzzles 🎲

Our principles

Complete freedom. The child makes 100% of his own decisions. They decide if they want to come, and what and how they make. The slightest pressure from an adult and all the magic is gone.

Different terminology Teacher, student, lesson, class, assignment, grades: we don't use these terms or methods. We have projects, teams, ideas, communication, and fun.

Stay out of the way and help Adults, just like children, come to the workshops to do their own projects. If a child needs help, he or she will come to you. If you need help, they will turn to you.
